Let’s face it, we have seen a plethora of bad movies this year . Although there have been a ton of incredible films that totally rocked the box office , we keep going back to how disappointing 2017 has been, theater-wise. Seeing Justice League turn into a total flop and one of Bella Thorne ‘s flicks only bringing in $742 , we can’t help but wonder what the heck is going on.
Thankfully, 2017 isn’t cursed (we think) and there have always been awful movies. Have you ever been at the theater to see a movie and during the previews you see a trailer and go, “WTF? How in the world did that movie get a sequel??” Well, we have. We rounded up all the really sucky movies that somehow got approved for a #2. We honestly didn’t even know some of these movies even had sequels! Check it out and reminisce about bad movies of the past:

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
It pains us just as much to write this as much as it hurts for you to read it. Percy Jackson & the Olympians is one of our favorite book series and Logan Lerman is one of our Hollywood baes, but the two just didn't mix well together. The first installment in the hopeful franchise was a huge letdown to fans of the books, so much so that it got a 49% on Rotten Tomatoes. While not completely terrible, we can't say that this was a cinematic success.
The sequel, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters , did even worse, earning a 43%. It's been four years since the sequel came out and we don't have any hope for another addition.

Fantastic Four
Did anyone else forget that Chris Evans was a superhero BEFORE becoming Captain America? In the OG Fantastic Four , we got a glimpse into the storyline of these genetically modified humans, but no one was really that impressed. Rotten Tomatoes gave it at 27%. Its sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer , was more liked, receiving a 37% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Snow White and the Huntsman
We always thought that Chris Hemsworth could do no wrong. We were so wrong. This retelling of the classic Snow White story had a lot of potential, but it didn't translate well to the big screen. Although it wasn't a complete failure, it still only earned a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which honestly still isn't that great. The Huntsman: Winter's War proved that it never should have happened when it got a 17% rating.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
To be honest, we were pretty excited to see that the classic franchise was getting an upgrade. With the new CGI capabilites, it was bound to be an instant winner, right? Wrong. The movie was slammed for its "thin plot" and basically being Transformers with turtles. It was given a 22% on Rotten Tomatoes and yet Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows was still made.

Valentine's Day
We never thought a movie that had almost every single working actor in Hollywood starring in it could be so bad. Although we could relate to some of the characters to almost an unhealthy extent over our hatred towards the love-filled holiday, it was given an 18% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Its pseudo-sequel New Year's Eve followed almost the exact same plot but for a different holiday came up even shorter with a 7%.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop
Paul Blart: Mall Cop is one of those movies we put on in the middle of the day when we're sick and want something to fall asleep to. Its humor only extends so far and it was given a 32% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 was created and although Paul was able to save everyone from danger using his segway once again, it received a 5% rating.

Alvin and the Chipmunks
We will probably be eternally confused about this franchise. On one hand, what's there not to like about adorable chipmunks singing? On the other, why would anyone want to hear a squeaky chipmunk sing? There are now FOUR movies in this franchise with each one getting more and more worse and weird. They should have known to stop making them the moment the first movie got a 27% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Scooby-Doo
We grew up watching the gang ride around in the Mystery Van solving crimes, so this movie should have been an easy success. Unfortunately, seeing the gang didn't go over well for fans and it received a 30% Rotten Tomatoes rating and the sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed , followed suit and got a measly 22%. Ruh-roh, Shaggy.

The Smurfs
This is another example of a classic franchise attempting, and failing, on the big screen. Although The Smurfs movie had potential, it didn't live up to its name. Fans were less than thrilled with it and gave it a 22% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The franchise still lives on, with the third movie coming out earlier this year.

The Flintstones
We were excited to see one of the biggest classic animated TV shows on the big screen, but nothing about the movie itself was exciting. Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie a 23% rating, and the sequel, The Flinstones In Viva Rock Vegas , proved to be barely better by getting a 25%.

Garfield
What's not to love about cats and comics? Apparently, there's a lot, the comic-turned-movie garnered a rough 15% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and STILL got a sequel! Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties was just as poorly received by getting an 11%.

Daddy's Home
With two comedic power houses like Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg , we thought this movie would be like the guy's version of Bad Moms . Unfortunately, that was not the case and it got a 31% on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequel, Daddy's Home 2 , came out earlier this year and is on track to have just as much bad luck as the OG movie.

Grown Ups
In theory, this would be a great movie. Keywords here are in theory . This Adam Sandler -led movie is full of flat jokes, poor storylines and lines that make you go, "What?" Audiences didn't connect with the film so it was given a 10% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and yet a sequel was still made. Grown Ups 2 proved to be just as bad, if not worse, receiving a 7%.

Ghost Rider
We're pretty sure this movie doomed from the start. The plot, storylines and characters were so jumbled together that you never really knew what was going on. The 26% rating on Rotten Tomatoes wasn't enough to dissuade a sequel, so Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengence was made and got a 17% rating.

Alien vs. Predator
There's something about aliens that makes movies either be massive successes or huge failures. Unfortunately for Alien vs. Predator , it was not a massive success. The first movie in the franchise got a 20% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and its sequel, Alien vs. Predator: Requiem , proved to be just as bad by receiving an 11%.

Baby Geniuses
We literally saved the worst for last. Baby Geniuses is about, you guessed it, baby geniuses. The 1999 movie was so bad that it got a 2% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and yet, it still got a sequel! Superbabies: Baby Geniuses proved itself to somehow be worse and still has a ZERO percent rating. This is one bad movie.
